FLO | AddÉnergie continues its North American expansion by installing charging stations in New York

FLO | AddÉnergie, a North American leader in electric vehicle charging solutions, is helping to achieve the New York’s environmental goals by installing curbside EV charging stations. The city is counting on electric vehicle adoption to reach its ambitious target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. Con Edison, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) and FLO, will install more than 100 charging stations across the five boroughs.

The inauguration ceremony took place last June to mark the installation of the very first charging station in the Bronx neighborhood. Installation of the other stations is underway; nearly half are already available to New York EV drivers.

A tailor-made solution

FLO | AddÉnergie was invited to design and develop a charging station that meets New York’s needs. Relying on its SmartTWO™ solution, the company was able to offer Con Edison and the NYCDOT a robust, durable solution that blends into the urban landscape thanks to its aluminum housing and sleek design. The charging stations are also equipped with FLO | AddÉnergie’s cable retraction system, which makes them easier to use and helps ensure pedestrian safety by keeping the sidewalk accessible and free of obstacles.

Collaboration at every level

Site selection is a crucial step in any charging infrastructure project. In New York, equity was a very important criterion for all partners. This ensured the charging stations’ accessibility to as many people as possible, regardless of economic status or ethnic background.

Access to the charging network near healthcare and educational institutions was also a priority for Con Edison and the NYCDOT. Once the project is complete, there will be stations near major hospitals, colleges and universities, regardless of the neighborhood.

Everyone benefits

Curbside charging stations are essential in cities that want to encourage EV adoption. Many drivers living in apartments or condos simply do not have access to a residential charger: they park their cars on the street. Access to public Level 2 charging stations is indispensable to enable their transition to electric.

Businesses also benefit from proximity to charging stations. FLO network data show that EV drivers spend more time at a destination while their vehicle is charging. They can shop, grab a coffee, discover new businesses and contribute to the local economy.

The FLO network expands in the United States

After the city of Los Angeles in 2019, New York represents our second-largest urban deployment in the United States. The entire FLO | AddÉnergie team is extremely proud of the work accomplished and intends to continue its mission of accelerating electric vehicle adoption by offering the best charging experience possible. In addition, all FLO network charging stations are designed and manufactured right here in Quebec!
