Quebec’s zero-emission vehicle sector
Quebec must continue to distinguish itself as the North American leader in manufacturing 100% electric vehicles, such as school buses, medium and heavy vehicles, and specialized and recreational vehicles.
This priority axis includes all aspects related to the manufacture of zero-emission vehicles (ZEV), as well as managing and converting vehicle fleets, telematics, infrastructure connectivity and environmental intelligence, growing shared mobility solutions, reducing car travel and improving city accessibility, all determining factors of sustainable transport.
OUR VISION
To reduce the growth of vehicle fleets through public transit and shared vehicle fleets, whether cars or trucks.
Ideas backed by Propulsion Québec
-
The cluster’s priority is, first and foremost, to enable the electrification of medium and heavy vehicles and to promote the modal shift away from cars and towards public transit.
Although they only represent a small portion of vehicles on the roads, heavy vehicles generate 28% of the road transport sector’s emissions.[1] In the fight against climate change, it is therefore in our best interest to prioritize this sector, which could revolutionize transport in Quebec. In conjunction with the electrification of vehicles, slowing the growth of vehicle fleets by focusing on public transit and shared vehicle fleets is a solution for decarbonizing the transportation and mobility sector.
-
Encourage governments to pursue their efforts around medium and heavy transport.
Several jurisdictions around the world have set ambitious targets and standards with respect to decarbonization and light vehicle zero-emissions transport, but also with respect to medium and heavy transport. The ZEV standard for light vehicles implemented by Quebec is one of the most ambitious in the world, but this type of standard is also necessary for medium and heavy vehicles at the provincial and federal level.
-
Encourage the continuation and extension of programs supporting the purchase of ZEVs.
In Quebec and Canada, there are incentive programs to support the purchase of zero-emission vehicles. These programs have a direct impact on a company’s decision to make the transition. This is why we are fighting to continue and extend these programs.
-
Support all aid targeted towards the manufacturing sector, R&D and the marketing of innovations.
There are many companies in the province of Quebec that are involved in manufacturing ZEVs and their components. Our role is to support the growth of our sector.
