FCSSQ: a frontline institution for a skilled workforce meeting the needs of the job market

At the heart of the public education system's challenges, the Fédération des centres de services scolaires du Québec (FCSSQ) puts its expertise at the service of the network to strengthen excellence and innovation, notably to benefit workforce qualification.

Vocational training: a crucial qualifying pathway

Vocational training is a winning solution to the labour shortage. Moreover, many trades in vocational training are at the heart of future jobs and in demand. That is why the FCSSQ works closely with 187 business services of vocational training centres across Quebec to develop Attestations of Vocational Studies (AEP) aimed at qualifying even more Quebecers and meeting the needs of the labour market. Through its collaborative leadership, it helps to develop cutting‑edge collective expertise intended to improve the performance of local organizations and businesses. To achieve this, the FCSSQ contributes to in‑depth studies to identify growing sectors, emerging technologies and the most sought‑after skills.

Training for the future

In this regard, the increasing electrification of transportation and the energy transition represent issues that will shape Quebec's future. Faced with these major challenges, the FCSSQ collaborates with the school service centres and anglophone school boards in the development and deployment of numerous short programs that will allow the business community to recruit a qualified and competent workforce. It is thus that the AEP Electric Vehicle Mechanics, where participants learn to diagnose, repair and maintain the systems of electric or hybrid propulsion cars. Other AEPs such as Hybrid and Electric Construction Equipment Mechanics and Hybrid and Electric Heavy Road Vehicle Mechanics, are currently under development and will be available soon.

These programs are designed so that learners acquire specific skills that will allow them to enter the labour market quickly. Whether in the fields of electricity, mechanics, health or construction, AEPs offer many rewarding and stimulating career opportunities.

With this in mind, the FCSSQ is proud to collaborate with Propulsion Québec and to take part in its En route Program, a showcase that promotes the new AEPs offered across Quebec, in the school service centres and the anglophone school boards.

To meet the challenges of tomorrow

The FCSSQ, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and public school organizations, continues to innovate and develop training programs to meet the emerging needs of the labour market. Through the development of AEPs, the FCSSQ actively contributes to building a competent, dynamic Quebec ready to face tomorrow's challenges. School perseverance, student well‑being, the quality of education, educational success and the response to socioeconomic needs are at the heart of its interventions.
