University of Engineering and Sustainable Development
With the aim of training a responsible, engaged and well-equipped next generation to meet society’s needs, Polytechnique Montréal is committed to strengthening the role of sustainable development across all its educational programs.
Depending on the courses and programs, students learn about the major cross-cutting issues raised by sustainable development, in particular the social responsibility of the engineer and working in a multidisciplinary context. Concepts such as life cycle analysis, organizational resilience, energy efficiency and alternative energies, and sustainable design and manufacturing are taught.
A new generation of engineers aware of environmental issues
There are many committees and technical societies at Polytechnique Montréal. To date it has four technical societies made up of true enthusiasts from several branches of engineering whose common passion is building prototypes using renewable energies.
1. Esteban
Since 1998, this Polytechnique Montréal technical society has stood out for the design and manufacture of solar vehicles intended to take part in international competitions.
All phases of the project are handled by the student committee, which brings together eight engineering disciplines, from preliminary design to road testing, including fundraising and sourcing suppliers, as well as vehicle manufacturing. This multidisciplinary project helps promote renewable energies around a common dream: a cleaner, healthier energy future on a global scale.

2. Exocet
This young technical society has set itself the challenge of innovating maritime transportation. It has the mandate to build a 5-meter electric catamaran that consumes as little energy as possible in order to take part in the international competition Monaco Energy Boat Challenge.

3. Formule Polytechnique Montréal
Founded in 2009, the goal of this technical society is to design and build an all-electric, single-seat Formula SAE car to compete in international competitions.
The team was the first from the Americas to take part in the Electric Formula SAE World Championship in Germany in 2012. With this project, the student committee aims to help train the next generation in transportation electrification.

4. PolyLoop
PolyLoop’s mission is to develop and manufacture a Hyperloop pod to take part in national and international competitions.
Hyperloop technology, proposed in 2013 by Elon Musk, is a new type of transportation that uses a magnetic levitation system propelled by linear induction in a depressurized tube. This system minimizes friction and enables impressive speeds.
PolyLoop is the first and only team in Quebec developing this technology.

Experiential learning through internships
As part of its main development directions, Polytechnique Montréal seeks to place experiential learning at the heart of student education. In addition to student involvement in technical societies and student committees, we are all aware of the added value that an internship experience in a company brings.
At Polytechnique, everyone enrolled in a bachelor’s program must complete at least one workplace internship and a maximum of four internships.
If you are a company working in electric and intelligent transportation, a large pool of students from various engineering disciplines is available to support you in your upcoming projects.
The overall satisfaction rate of internship supervisors regarding Polytechnique interns reaches an almost perfect score. Employers appreciate the rigor and quality of the deliverables produced by our interns and graduates.
The Internships and Careers Service, your ally in your recruitment process
The Internships and Careers Service of Polytechnique Montréal is here to support employers in their recruitment of interns and graduates. Our platform called La Ruche, allows you to post your internship positions.
We remind you that the posting of internship offers for summer 2024 is underway. If you already plan to recruit for the fall, the suggested posting dates are between May 24 and mid-August.
