Montreal, June 23, 2022— Propulsion Québec, the cluster for electric and intelligent transportation (TEI), in collaboration with the Government of Canada, has set up three programs aimed at supporting the TEI ecosystem in its growth and development. The implementation of these programs strongly reinforces Propulsion Québec’s position as a key player to accelerate transportation electrification, support companies in the electric transition and foster the ecological transition of Quebec’s economy.
Recharge+
Through the Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, Natural Resources Canada awarded CA$4M in funding to Propulsion Québec to set up the Recharge+ program for the installation of up to 680 level-2 charging stations in Quebec. This program will enable the TEI cluster to distribute funding to its members and major private-sector partners as well as to Quebec public-sector organizations to acquire and install charging infrastructure for light-vehicle fleets, workplaces and public locations. Eligible businesses could receive between $5,000 and $50,000 in financial contribution per installation. To learn more about Recharge+.
« We are making electric vehicles more affordable and charging infrastructure more accessible in places where people live, work and play, from coast to coast. Investments like the one announced today in Quebec for the installation of charging stations will enable more Canadians to move toward a carbon-neutral future and will help us reach our climate goals. »
« Innovation is at the heart of our government’s priorities, and we proudly support the ecological transition in businesses and organizations. By investing in innovative projects such as the electrification of our transportation and promoting the adoption of cleaner energy processes, we are investing in the well-being of future generations. Furthermore, by helping SMEs become more innovative and competitive and by supporting innovation for the development of greener technologies and products, we are laying the groundwork for the jobs of tomorrow, »
Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (DEC) for its part provided a non-repayable contribution of CA$2.2M to Propulsion Québec to set up two programs: Transition+ and Defense and Security.
Transition+
Through Transition+, the TEI cluster will support suppliers in the traditional supply chain to adapt their services and products: they will receive a comprehensive assessment of their service offering, the development of a commercialization plan and the setup of a financing plan. Companies eligible for the program could obtain non-repayable support of up to $58,100. To learn more about Transition+.
Defense and Security
The Defense and Security (D&S) program is the first phase of a project that will ultimately allow Propulsion Québec members to develop their service and product offerings for the D&S market in order to enable an electric and intelligent transition of these specialized vehicles and infrastructures. The D&S sector is extremely complex; specialized external resources will allow Propulsion Québec to document the issues and needs, and thus position the TEI within public procurement projects. « Our government has made concrete commitments to demonstrate that a strong economy and a healthy environment go hand in hand. We are strategically investing, among other things, in clean technologies, a priority of our economic recovery plan. By helping SMEs in the transportation sector electrify, and thus become more innovative and competitive, we support the development of a better value proposition for the transportation market of tomorrow. I thank Propulsion Québec for being at the heart of Quebec's efforts to reduce GHG emissions and to fight the devastating effects of climate change », said the Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Member of Parliament for Brome–Missisquoi, Minister of Sport and Minister responsible for DEC
« These three programs are concrete examples that respond to various initiatives of the Ambition TEI 2030 project, the industrial policy that will position Quebec as a global leader in the sector, notably in the areas of financing and the electrical transition. I wish to thank Natural Resources Canada and Canada Economic Development for their trust and support. It is largely thanks to the support of our governments that we will be able to develop the strong potential of our ecosystem in Quebec. », she said Sarah Houde, President and Chief Executive Officer of Propulsion Québec.
