Propulsion Québec launches the Talent & Workforce initiative

The working group's kickoff meetingTalent and workforcetook place on September 24 at the CDPQ space in Montreal. More than thirty stakeholders, members and partners of Propulsion Québec gathered to consider the current and future needs of the electric and intelligent transportation (EIT) industry regarding training and the workforce.

The Propulsion Québec team, supported by the co-chairs of the working group, Renée Michaud, advisor for development and R&D partnerships at Polytechnique Montréal, and Benoit Lacroix, co-founder and Vice-President, Sales & Marketing at Effenco, presented the preliminary objectives. Participants were also surveyed about the ecosystem's challenges, main concerns, and the directions to be taken for continuing the work.

Participants, from both industry and the institutions and organizations involved in workforce matters, discussed the current and anticipated challenges of our sector to lay the groundwork for the work that will need to be carried out in the coming years.

The mobilization and the search for solutions already underway on site generated several ideas and avenues of work for Propulsion Québec, which must now propose a final mandate for this working group, supported by an action plan for 2020.

In addition, attention was given to the study recently launched by Propulsion Québec to assess deployment scenarios for EIT over the next thirty years, as well as to outline a portrait of the workforce and training in the sector.

Finally, the announcement of a Workforce Forum to be held on December 5 was an opportunity to set the next meeting of the working group, and to bring together all members around workforce and training issues. An official invitation will be sent soon for this important event.
