TRIBUTE TO WOMEN IN OUR ECOSYSTEM: Portrait of the situation in the public domain

The transportation sector has long been composed overwhelmingly of men. For about ten years, women have increasingly taken seats at discussion tables, in leadership, and on the boards of directors of various leading companies and organizations in our ecosystem.

In December 2006, the National Assembly recognized, through the Act respecting the governance of state-owned enterprises, the importance of greater participation of women in various bodies. In this way, it ensured that the boards of directors of all Crown corporations covered by this law would be composed equally of women and men as of December 14, 2011.

As of December 31, 2021, the rate of female representation on the boards of directors of all Crown corporations covered by the Act respecting the governance of state-owned enterprises is 52.7%, thus falling within the designated parity zone. The organization that stands out in our sector is Hydro-Québec, which has 68.8% female representation on its board of directors!

Since the creation of the Ministry of Transport, three women have held the position of Minister of Transport. The first,Marie-Claire Kirkland-Casgrain, lawyer, was not only the first woman elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec in 1961, but she was the first holder of this important ministry from 1964 to 1966. She was followed byMme Julie Boulet41 years later, in 2007, and then byMme Geneviève Guilbaultsince October 2022.

Women now make up 41% of the members of the boards of directors of Quebec's ten transportation companies, and four of them chair those boards, namely:Mme Jocelyne Frédéric-Gauthier of the Société de transport de Laval (STL), Mme Geneviève Héon of the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), Mme Josée Bérubé of Exo and Mme Maude Mercier-Larouche of the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC). Recently, two women were respectively appointed general manager of transportation companies, namely of the STM (Mme Marie-Claude Léonard) and of the STL (Mme Josée Roy).

We are proud, for the 2023 edition of IMPULSION, to have 36 women as speakers who come from different backgrounds of our ecosystem and who will share their knowledge and their passion with us. At Propulsion Québec, our executive committee is 75% women and some of our teams are also composed mostly of women.

Join us at the IMPULSION Summit from March 13 to 15!
