In 2022-2023, CFP Paul-Rousseau intends to offer the very first cohort of the DEP-MVLR adapted to urban buses.
The DEP content in heavy road vehicle mechanics will be adapted to urban buses by adding training hours to fill gaps in knowledge about electric and hybrid vehicles. The first group is expected to start in 2023. It should be noted that this project came to be thanks to the support of the ATUQ and its members. The ministry participated financially by granting $8,000,000 for the expansion of the current facilities and the acquisition of the equipment necessary to adapt the training. You can visit our new facilities with this 360 video:
The Government of Quebec advocates for the electrification of transportation and transit companies must acquire hybrid and electric buses in the coming years. This training therefore comes at the right time. Indeed, the facilities owned by the Centre de services scolaire des Chênes are suited to these types of buses. It will therefore be possible to train female and male mechanics to perform maintenance and repair on these new vehicles.
Thus, in collaboration with the Association of Urban Transport of Quebec, CFP Paul-Rousseau is putting everything in place to facilitate the launch of such a relevant and important program in Quebec. It should be noted that the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) made a donation of seven buses to properly start this training. RTL works closely with CFPPR to add relevant content to the training. Additionally, the SAE Centre-du-Québec collaborates with this organization to train current technical staff.
CFP Paul-Rousseau's goal is to become a leading partner for training on electric urban buses in Quebec. The CFPPR – MVLR Center will become a training site for all types of heavy vehicles.
"We are fortunate to be able to count on the support and collaboration of important provincial stakeholders for the planning and implementation of this program. Of course, we are working very hard to rally other organizations and potential future employers for the graduates of this training program," says Sophie Tousignant, Director of Educational Services in Vocational Training at the Centre de services scolaire des Chênes.
Currently, transit companies and businesses owning urban buses hire people with a DEP in MVLR who must learn the particularities of an urban bus that are different from heavy vehicles. With this training, these companies will have access to trained individuals as soon as they obtain the diploma.
Working conditions in this field are very attractive and the needs are great. All people from across Quebec who want to work in this field are invited to register >>>
