Vapor Rail, a division of Wabtec Canada, designs and manufactures train and subway door systems, heating and air conditioning units, as well as auxiliary power systems. We have more than 70 projects in design, manufacturing, delivery or warranty at any one time, which makes the tasks of a designer and an engineer very diverse throughout the entire product life cycle. Since our products remain in service for 30 to 40 years, reliability and durability are essential! This does not prevent us from upgrading certain components when technology allows.
There is no typical day for a designer or an engineer at Vapor Rail. One can design and document electromechanical products by calling on the mechanical, electrical or software engineering disciplines. Our employees are called upon to participate in design reviews; take part in system design and prototyping, define and execute the necessary tests, perform failure analyses, give technical presentations to clients, and provide support to our manufacturing sites and suppliers — at our three sites in Montreal and Plattsburgh or remotely. The work to be done is very varied and for a multitude of clients in North America.

Moving an idea from paper or computer drawings to product industrialization on our production lines in Plattsburgh, and assisting with the installation and validation of the product on the customer's train is a major accomplishment for our engineers and a tremendous satisfaction for our manufacturer and train operator clients across most major cities in North America.
As part of the larger Wabtec family, several other interesting business areas related to mobility and transportation provide us with a platform to collaborate with colleagues in many countries. True to our roots, we remain number one in the global rail industry.
Our Montreal team was awarded the Grand Prize for Excellence in 2022 for a development project by the Group President. This recognition was given following the technical success of integrating multiple systems to meet the needs of a specific client. This collaborative challenge between our teams in China, France, the United States and Canada was recognized as a huge success that paved the way toward the definition of standard products.
All of this for the benefit of environmentally friendly mobility, for everyone!
Several projects at different stages are underway and our order book is full of opportunities for the years to come. Public transit, which will soon resume its place in our lives, will generate huge demand to catch up on what could not be done over the past two years. We are always looking for candidates in all design and engineering disciplines.
Our products are complex and provide safe solutions for our clients and their users. System reliability and cybersecurity are at the heart of our development work, and the requirements are increasingly demanding.
We are also part of several organizations related to passenger or freight transport that allow us to see market trends as well as new developments or demands from our clients.
If you speak to one of our employees, they will tell you that we offer professional development, opportunities for growth within the company, flexible schedules and autonomy.
Come create change and improve our environment with us!
