QUEBEC, Oct. 2, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ – Led by the Union of Enterprises of Ille-et-Vilaine (UE35) and involving the institutional actors from Rennes and Saint-Malo, a large economic and institutional delegation will travel to Montreal and Quebec from September 29 to October 4, 2019, on the occasion of the 20th international meetings of UE35. This delegation of 170 people is composed of business leaders of all sizes (SMEs and large groups) and from all economic sectors, start-ups, elected officials and tourism stakeholders, illustrating the diversity of the region’s entrepreneurial community.
A rich, multisector program
The UE35 delegation will make the most of its stay in Montreal and Quebec to meet flagship companies of Quebec and its sectors of excellence. The program thus includes visits to several flagships of Quebec industry in sectors key to the Breton economy, such as agri-food, cultural and creative industries, digital technology, cybersecurity, health and new mobility.
An institutional delegation led by Rennes Métropole will develop a specific meeting program, focused in particular on the issues of smart mobility. Interviews with the elected officials of the cities of Montreal and Quebec are thus planned.
Furthermore, Destination Rennes a public company in charge of the economic and tourist promotion of Rennes, will organize technical meetings with the organizations that drive Quebec’s economic and tourism community.
Finally, two sectoral missions, labelled under the framework of the Franco-Quebec fund for decentralized cooperation (FFQCD) and co-financed by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and Rennes Métropole, are organized in parallel :
- The first, on the theme of electric and smart mobility (from September 30 to October 2), initiated by the competitiveness cluster ID4Car, which will be accompanied by around ten member companies of its network. A specific agenda in Montreal and Quebec, dedicated to electric and smart transportation, is specially planned for them and has been designed in partnership with the industry cluster Propulsion Québec.
- The second, in life sciences and new technologies (from October 2 to 4): the Breton competitiveness clusters Images et Réseaux and ID2Santé are organizing in partnership with the cluster Québec Vitae an economic mission in the National Capital on the theme of connected health. The program is integrated into the first Innovation and Partnerships day of the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute (IUCPQ) which takes place on October 2 and in which several Breton companies and researchers participate. It then continues with two days of professional meetings and visits to businesses and health establishments in Quebec.

Close cooperations between Quebec, Rennes and Saint-Malo
The organization of this delegation follows the visit of the mayor of Quebec, Régis Labeaume, who traveled to Rennes in November 2018 as part of a mission in France. On the occasion of his trip to the Breton capital, he invited members of UE35 to go to Quebec in 2019 to hold their next international meetings there.
The cooperative dynamic between Rennes, Saint-Malo and Quebec dates back to 2013. It was highlighted in the digital field with the signing of a protocol to organize the first two editions d’Opportunités Digitales in Rennes first, then in Quebec the following year.
This was followed by the implementation of numerous cooperation projects in various fields:
- Cultural and creative industries: with an agreement between the Institute b<>com and the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) of Montreal on the one hand, and Québec International on the other.
- Business tourism: through a collaboration between the Quebec Convention Centre and Destination Rennes.
- As well as several decentralized cooperation projects (FFQCD) on promising themes: health and new technologies, innovation and food uses, video game culture, social economy, smart mobility, etc..
This privileged relationship has led to the recruitment since 2011 of an international company volunteer (VIE), responsible for Quebec/Rennes Saint-Malo relations. His role is to detect opportunities to carry out new cooperation projects between Brittany and Quebec and to facilitate contact with local companies on both sides of the Atlantic (this VIE is currently hosted at Québec International).
