Start of the inaugural edition of Propulsion Québec's Impulsion MTL

Montreal, June 3, 2019 – Propulsion Québec today launches the very first edition of Impulsion MTL, the International Forum on Fleet Management, taking place at the Montreal Science Centre, which will bring together representatives from more than 20 North American municipalities, including New York City, who have come to learn from Montreal’s best practices in fleet management. This is an exceptional opportunity for participants to develop business relationships with Quebec companies that are deploying all their expertise to accelerate the large-scale electrification of the transportation sector and the shift to smart mobility.

This international-scale event organized by Propulsion Québec brings together nearly 300 professionals and experts, as well as several innovative companies, around a common goal: modernizing vehicle fleets through new technologies and innovative mobility solutions. The opening ceremony will be preceded by the unveiling by Compagnie Électrique Lion and Boivin Évolution of the first 100% electric garbage, recycling and compost truck.

Over the two days of the event, participants from the public, parapublic and private sectors will take part in conferences, workshops and roundtables to discuss innovative practices related to the fleet management of tomorrow. They will jointly consider the best ways to accelerate the large-scale conversion of fleets of vehicles that spend their days on the road, which will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions locally and globally. About fifteen innovative Quebec companies are among the exhibitors at this event and will showcase products, services and policies consistent with Vision Zero for low-emission, collision-free and higher-performing vehicle fleets. The first day of the Forum will close with a reception during which several Quebec companies will make a joint announcement related to fleet management.

Impulsion MTL is organized by Propulsion Québec, the cluster for electric and intelligent transportation, in collaboration with the City of Montreal, LAPV and the City of New York, and co-presented with the Quebec Ministry of Economy and Innovation.

Impulsion MTL is:

  • A must-attend forum for cooperation where various stakeholders – municipal, public, parapublic and private – can discuss best practices for managing the vehicle fleets of tomorrow from a zero-emission perspective;
  • Speakers from about fifteen major North American cities – including New York, Los Angeles, Edmonton, Vancouver, Ottawa and Calgary – who will share their solutions for addressing the main challenges facing this industry, including procurement, compliance, safety and sustainability.
  • Around fifteen innovative Quebec companies that will exhibit the latest technologies related to the management of tomorrow’s fleets and next-generation zero-emission vehicles.

Quotes

"Propulsion Québec is proud to launch this first edition of Impulsion MTL, which represents an exceptional opportunity to discuss the challenges of progressively converting vehicle fleets from a zero-emission perspective. Around the world, entities in the public, parapublic and private sectors are imagining and implementing innovative ideas to carry out this large-scale transformation and to equip themselves with more efficient, more sustainable and smarter fleets. This Forum aims to share these successes from here and elsewhere, as well as to showcase the innovations that can accompany this shift to electric, many of which originate from our dynamic Quebec ecosystem," said Sarah Houde, President and CEO of Propulsion Québec, the cluster for electric and intelligent transportation.

"A true hub of innovation, Quebec is among the international leaders in the sectors of intelligent transportation and sustainable mobility, notably thanks to its experts in electric vehicles, logistics, telecommunications, software, big data and deep learning. Impulsion MTL will certainly help strengthen its position and that of its metropolis among the world leaders in the strategic transport equipment sector. This forum will offer an exceptional showcase for Quebec companies and will be a unique opportunity to forge strong, structuring business ties with international partners," said Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy and Innovation and Minister responsible for the Lanaudière region.

"Municipalities have a key role to play in achieving the energy transition in the transportation sector. By making electromobility a priority, the City of Montreal had a duty to set an example and to begin this transition within its large municipal vehicle fleet. We are fully committed to this process, supported by innovative local companies. Impulsion MTL is a unique opportunity to discuss with actors from everywhere involved in a similar conversion. By sharing our experiences, successes and best practices, cities around the world will quickly move toward smarter, more sustainable fleets while reaping the environmental, economic and social benefits of this major transformation," said Montreal’s mayor, Valérie Plante.

"The fight against climate change requires changes in our lifestyles and in how we travel. We must take concrete actions and adopt measures that will facilitate this energy transition. To achieve this, we are relying on development, innovation and the sharing of expertise, and Impulsion MTL is a fantastic showcase of the metropolis’s leadership in sustainable solutions in the fight against climate change," added Ms. Sophie Mauzerolle, Associate Councillor for Urban Planning and Mobility on the Executive Committee of the City of Montreal.
