La Compagnie Électrique Lion (Lion) unveiled on March 11 its first 100% electric Class 8 urban truck, the Lion8, which will be marketed starting next fall and whose very first vehicle will be delivered to the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ). The announcement was made in the presence of many industry representatives, the Minister of the Economy and Innovation, Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon, the Minister of the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change, Mr. Benoit Charette, as well as the minister responsible for the Laurentides region, Ms. Sylvie D’Amours.
The Lion8 was conceived, designed and built for electric propulsion and offers a range of up to 400 kilometers. Furthermore, the elimination of noise pollution, optimized visibility and its unmatched turning radius make the Lion8 extremely pleasant to maneuver.
Lion8 advantages in brief
- Produces no greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, while 40% of GHG emissions in Quebec come from transportation, notably heavy transport;
- Is silent;
- Can save up to 80% of total energy costs;
- Reduces maintenance costs by 60%; the Lion8’s electric powertrain is simple and contains few components, thus requiring very little maintenance;
- The vehicle contains no oil, has very few removable components and has brakes that last longer thanks to regenerative braking;
- Built in Quebec, custom-made, designed to withstand North American weather and road conditions.
Lion was able to count on the support of the Government of Quebec in the development of this innovative technology.
