Engineers and software designers are in high demand!

Electric and Intelligent Transportation Sector

The electric and intelligent transportation sector (TEI) is currently undergoing a transformation and is experiencing rapid growth that will accelerate over the coming years. In addition to contributing to the fight against climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the TEI ecosystem helps create jobs in forward-looking sectors and supports the development of research and innovation in cutting-edge technology.

Since the vehicle fleet in North America is expected to undergo major changes toward increased electrification and automation, by 2050 a skilled, specialized, and trained workforce will be needed to support this exponential growth!

The industrial transition toward electrification and automation of transportation requires the sector to incorporate new know-how and skills in areas such as batteries, mechatronics, and data science. To ensure market development, versatility of talent and the acquisition of new skills are required; the diagram below summarizes the key competencies demanded by the electric and intelligent transportation industry, from design to vehicle development.

Many positions will emerge and others, not yet in existence today, will be created over the coming years depending on the evolution of the TEI sector and its needs. Careers where you can actively participate in this transition to a new mobility are available to you! A career in the TEI sector means taking on stimulating challenges in engineering and development, digital technologies, and more. In addition, many workers from other sectors and industries can easily transfer their knowledge and experience to Quebec TEI organizations.

Highly technical jobs

In-demand professions have a strong technical focus and therefore require emerging skills that are hard to find in today’s market. This is a unique opportunity for experienced engineers and software designers, who will find in the TEI sector an environment where they can apply their expertise and face daily challenges.

Here are some examples of profiles whose skills are highly sought after and who work on exciting projects that are revolutionizing the transportation and mobility sector:

Systems Engineer

A high-power specialist, such as in integrated propulsion systems and electrified vehicles, they play a key role in developing system architecture for vehicles.

Software and Artificial Intelligence Designer for Intelligent Vehicles

This specialist plays a key role in developing machine learning solutions for the onboard imaging systems in autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles.

Electrical Engineer

The electrical engineer designs, plans, studies, evaluates, and tests electrical equipment and systems; they participate in the development of vehicles and charging stations by designing various components for the electric and intelligent transportation sector.

Mechanical Engineer

The mechanical engineer is responsible for the overall design and integration of the structure, systems, and functions of the vehicle under their responsibility. They verify and approve new components or systems developed by designers.

Embedded Software Designer

This expert designs software modules that enable electric and intelligent vehicles as well as charging stations to operate. They are also called upon to lead or participate in software design reviews and to contribute to software safety analyses.
