Electric buses will be gradually put into service on the STL network over the coming weeks. The first customers will be able to board very soon!
The electric buses ordered by the STL in 2018 have arrived in the city and the tests and validations required before they enter service will soon be completed. Although the pandemic slowed the delivery of electric buses to Laval, it will not divert the STL from its goals of reducing its GHG emissions by 45% by 2028 and electrifying its entire bus fleet by 2040. Throughout the network
The electric buses will travel through residential and commercial areas randomly in order to introduce as many Laval residents as possible to this improved mode of transport. Whether customers take the bus in the morning, at noon, or in the evening, they may be pleasantly surprised to come across an electric bus for their trip.
Benefits for everyone
Laval's electric buses have a range of about 250 km and are charged overnight at the garage. A full battery charge takes about 3 hours 30 minutes. They have the same number of seats as hybrid buses. The main differences passengers may notice are reduced noise inside and outside the vehicle and reduced onboard vibration, which makes the ride very comfortable.
Eco-friendly and comfortable
In addition to offering a more pleasant trip for passengers, each electric bus avoids the emission of 70 to 80 tonnes of greenhouse gases (GHG) per year. By 2040, all STL buses will be electric, a strong move in the fight against climate change. In addition, public transit reduces road congestion, thereby further contributing to the reduction of GHGs in Laval. For comparison, an average Quebecer generates about 10 tonnes of GHG per year.
An expanded garage
Electric buses require facilities and maintenance and planning methods different from other bus models. In anticipation of future purchases of electric buses, the STL is currently planning the expansion and electrification of its garage, which should open as early as 2024. Another large-scale project that will keep STL teams mobilized in this major technological transformation. To participate:STLaval.ca/carriere.
