The First Edition of Propulsion Québec’s Impulsion MTL Kicks Off
OVER 20 NORTH AMERICAN CITIES COMING TOGETHER FOR THE FLEETS OF THE FUTURE
Montréal, June 3, 2019 – Propulsion Québec launched the first edition of Impulsion MTL, the International Fleet Management Forum, held at the Montréal Science Centre. Representatives from over 20 North American municipalities, including the City of New York, will gather in Montréal to draw inspiration from best practices in fleet management. It’s an incredible opportunity for participants to build business relationships with Quebec companies that are putting their skills to use to accelerate the transportation sector’s large-scale transition towards electric vehicles and smart mobility. This major international event organized by Propulsion Québec brings together nearly 300 professionals and experts and several trailblazing companies working towards a common objective: upgrading fleets with new technologies and innovative mobility solutions. The opening ceremony will be held right after The Electric Lion Company and Boivin Évolution reveal the first-ever 100% electric fully automated collection body.
During the 2-day event, participants from the public, parapublic and private sectors will take part in conferences, workshops, and roundtable discussions to deepen their knowledge and know-how around innovative management practices for next-generation fleets. Collectively, they’ll reflect on the best way to accelerate the large-scale conversion of fleets, which will contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions both locally and worldwide. Over a dozen innovative Quebec companies will be at the event showcasing products, services and policies that comply with the Vision Zero approach for low-emission, accident-free and more efficient fleets.
The first day of the Forum will end with a cocktail, during which several Quebec businesses will make a joint announcement related to fleet management.
Impulsion MTL is co-presented by Propulsion Québec, the cluster for smart and electric transportation, and the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation du Québec, and in collaboration with the cities of Montréal and New York and LAPV.
Impulsion MTL is:
- A major forum for actors from municipal, public, parapublic and private sectors to discuss best practices for managing the fleets of the future as they move towards zero emissions.
- Speakers from a dozen major North American cities—including New York, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Edmonton and Calgary—presenting their strategies for overcoming the main challenges in the sector, including issues around supply, compliance, safety and durability.
- Nearly twenty innovative Quebec companies showcasing the newest technology in next-generation fleet management and zero-emission vehicles.

“Propulsion Québec is proud to be hosting the first edition of Impulsion MTL, which is an amazing opportunity to discuss the challenges that come with the gradual transition towards zero-emission vehicles. All across the world, actors from the public, parapublic and private sectors are contributing to this huge undertaking and putting innovative ideas in motion to make their fleets smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable. This forum is a platform for sharing local and international success stories and for discovering innovations that will usher in the conversion towards electric transportation, many of which come from Quebec’s active and enterprising ecosystem,” said Sarah Houde, CEO of Propulsion Québec, the cluster for smart and electric transportation.
“Quebec has established itself as a centre for innovation. Our expertise in a wide range of promising and thriving industries such as electric vehicles, logistics, telecommunications, software, big data and deep learning makes us stand out as international leaders in the transportation and sustainable mobility sectors. Impulsion MTL will reinforce Quebec and Montreal’s position as world leaders in the strategic transportation equipment sector. This forum will showcase Quebec’s ground-breaking companies and it’s a great opportunity for building solid and constructive business relationships with international partners,” stated Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy and Innovation and Minister Responsible for the Lanaudière Region
“Municipalities have a key role to play in the transportation sector’s energy transition. When the City of Montreal made electromobility a priority, we knew we had to set an example and start the transition within our own large municipal fleet. We are firmly committed to this process and are working with local innovative businesses to make it happen. Impulsion MTL is a unique opportunity to talk to experts from all around the world involved in similar conversion processes. By sharing our experiences, achievements, and best practices cities will be able to move quickly towards smarter, more sustainable fleets and reap the added environmental, economic and social benefits that this major transformation generates,” declared the Mayor of Montréal, Valérie Plante.
“Climate change compel citizens to think about changes they must integrate into their daily lives, and how these changes will affect mobility within cities. Concrete action has to be undertaken to facilitate the energy transition. To achieve this, we rely on development, innovation, and the sharing of expertise and good practices. Impulsion MTL is a great showcase of Montreal’s leadership in finding sustainable solutions in the fight against climate change, “added Ms. Sophie Mauzerolle, Associate Councilor responsible for Urban Planning and Mobility on the Executive Committee of the City of Montreal.
