Vidéotron puts its first Ford E-Transit electric trucks into service.

Vidéotron took another important step in its green transition last June, part of Québecor’s transport electrification plan, with the addition to its fleet of the very first Ford E-Transit electric trucks. These service vehicles, the first of an order of about one hundred, can already be seen on the roads of Quebec.

“Electrifying transportation is a way forward in the fight against climate change and the establishment of a sustainable economy in Quebec. Québecor is proud to be among the first companies to concretely contribute to this transformation with the deployment of 100% electric trucks. It is essential that the government maintain its support for initiatives of this kind so that we can collectively continue to make things better,” said Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Québecor.

The Ford E-Transit electric trucks offer the power and range ideal for the needs of Vidéotron’s technical teams who carry out on-site visits to customers. It should also be noted that Québecor recently completed the installation of 55 charging stations at its Frontenac Street facilities in Montreal to accommodate Vidéotron fleet electric vehicles. Several new chargers will be added to this number at various centres operated by the company over the coming months.

Already counting many electric vehicles in its fleet, Québecor committed in January 2020 to electrify all of the approximately 1,000 cars and light trucks across its subsidiaries. At the end of this investment of more than $17.5 million, the company will be able to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by over 50%, which represents 85,000 one-way Montreal–Toronto flights by plane for one person. In addition to being a partner of Propulsion Québec and a collaborator of the event En route, Québecor also joined the EV100 initiative, a global coalition launched by the Climate Group whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles within companies by 2030. These initiatives are part of the overall action plan put in place by Québecor to reduce the environmental footprint of all its subsidiaries and which includes, among other things, the eco-responsible film set program "On tourne vert" as well as a recent partnership with the organization Soverdi for the greening of Montreal’s private and institutional grounds.
