Québec, April 14, 2021 –The G15+ Capitale-Nationale, which has been working for nearly a year on a plan for an inclusive, prosperous and green recovery, welcomes the willingness shown by many to prepare the post-pandemic recovery. However, the coalition calls for greater coordination among the many stakeholders involved in order to enhance their social, environmental and economic benefits, for the benefit of the citizens of Capitale‑Nationale.
Envisioning a coordinated recovery
Over the past months, the population and leaders from all backgrounds have pointed to the unprecedented opportunity to rebuild the economy on new foundations in order to provide a more adequate response to climate and social challenges. Several consultations have been launched in recent months under the responsibility of different well-intentioned groups. However, it must be noted that, promising as these various initiatives may be, they have so far resulted in a lack of coordination between them, which diminishes the overall scope of the different actions and projects promoted by each.
Members of the G15+ Capitale-Nationale filed last Januarya brief presenting sixteen structuring projects aligned with four major regional priorities, and in addition to having been frequently solicited and having enthusiastically supported other regional initiatives. The current context, marked by an unprecedented health and climate crisis, requires the prompt realization of structuring, inspiring and distinct projects that will contribute to a prosperous, inclusive and green recovery. Given its scale and its significant impacts on the social fabric, the environment and our prosperity, this crisis calls for much more coordinated actions and reflection. Recovery measures and plans will require significant public investments, and it seems essential to us that these contribute to more sustainable development.
The collective and rigorous approach of the G15+ Capitale-Nationale
G15+ Capitale-Nationale is composed of more than fifteen organizations and leaders from the economic, social and environmental sectors. The group has adopted arigorous analysis methodologybased on the principles of sustainable development, which made it possible to identify projects that enjoy broad consensus among its members. G15+ Capitale-Nationale also hopes that this approach will serve as inspiration should other reflections take place on this subject in the region.
G15+ Capitale-Nationale thus calls on municipal and regional actors — with economic, social and environmental mandates — responsible for the other initiatives developed to pool the efforts and projects carried out by each so that, collectively, we can accelerate and implement a recovery that, day by day, becomes increasingly essential and necessary.
