Montreal, January 13, 2021 – Convinced of the need to focus on the electrification of transportation to help fight climate change, Québecor is pleased to join the EV100 initiative, a group of global companies launched by the Climate Group whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles within businesses by 2030.
Already counting numerous electric vehicles in its fleet, Québecor began, in January 2020, accelerating a shift started a few years ago by committing to electrify all of the approximately 1,000 cars and light trucks across all of its subsidiaries, including Vidéotron and Groupe TVA. This plan will revolve around the purchase of electric cars and the conversion of the gasoline engines of its light trucks to electric motors thanks to Quebec technology. Ultimately, Québecor will be able to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50%.
"Québecor is proud to join the EV100 initiative. As a company, it is important for us to show leadership by putting effective action plans in place to reduce our environmental footprint and by relying on the electrification of transport powered by hydroelectricity, one of Quebec’s greatest collective natural resources. It is our duty, and Québecor is proud to make this commitment for its employees, its investors, its partners and, of course, its millions of customers. We hope that many other companies, both small and large, will undertake this transition, the success of which depends on the participation of all actors in society," said Pierre Karl Péladeau, president and CEO of Québecor.
"We are pleased to welcome Québecor as a new member of EV100. By joining this international leadership initiative, Québecor demonstrates its commitment to electric transport and its community. We hope that its example will inspire many other companies to join EV100 in North America and around the world to act for a cleaner and more prosperous future," said Amy Davidsen, Director for North America at the Climate Group.
