Propulsion Québec launches a major consultation process to position Quebec's electric and intelligent ground transportation industry as a global leader.

Montreal, March 18, 2021 — Propulsion Québec, the Quebec cluster for electric and intelligent transportation (TEI), is launching in March 2021 a consultation of Quebec’s electric and intelligent transportation (TEI) ecosystem to survey industry stakeholders about the opportunities and challenges related to the growth of this sector.

As part of its mandate to position Quebec as a global leader in electric and intelligent transportation, Propulsion Québec, with the support of the Government of Quebec, is launching several structuring projects for its ecosystem:

  • A project to Roadmap 2030 of the industry, which will identify sectors and subsectors with strong growth potential and added value within electric and intelligent transportation. This project will be carried out in collaboration with the firm Deloitte and supported by Hydro-Québec and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec.
  • A project forstudy on the financing chain with the objective of taking stock of public and private financing sources available to all types of organizations in electric and intelligent transportation according to their phase of growth and development. This project will be carried out in collaboration with the firm EY and supported by the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Fondaction, MKB, Investissement Québec and Langlois Avocats.
  • An exercise in Strategic Planning to guide the cluster’s activities and actions for the 2021–2024 period, in order to best support its approximately 215 members.
  • A project fora study related to the development of specific skills of the Quebec workforce to contribute to the green recovery of Quebec’s and Canada’s economy. This project will be carried out in collaboration with the Council of Information and Communications Technologies (CTIC).

Since these projects concern our entire ecosystem and the promising niches of tomorrow’s mobility, Quebec stakeholders in electric and intelligent land transportation will be invited to respond to various surveys between March and June 2021, in order to share their opinions, issues and challenges, as well as their expertise and vision. The data collected will enable the implementation of the structuring projects that will accelerate the development of the Quebec value chain in electric and intelligent transport and thus position Quebec among the world leaders within the next 10 years.

Quebec’s EIT industry, which has been growing strongly for several years, experienced a real boom over the past 12 months and governments have promoted projects for the electrification of the economy and intelligent mobility as key drivers for a sustainable and prosperous recovery.

It is thanks to this first large-scale consultation exercise set up by Propulsion Québec at the national level that we will be able to structure and optimize the growth and positioning of Quebec companies specializing in EIT on the international stage.

“We are at a key moment in our collective history. Great opportunities are arising and demand for electric and intelligent transport is growing exponentially. We must seize this unique opportunity to position Quebec on the global chessboard of tomorrow’s mobility, and to make our industry a model of innovation and economic success,” said Sarah Houde, President and CEO of Propulsion Québec
