Montreal, September 21, 2021 – Propulsion Québec and the Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) announced today, on the sidelines of the launch of the IMPULSION MTL 2021 event in Montreal, the signing of a strategic collaboration agreement aimed at promoting the development of transportation electrification in Quebec.
This unprecedented initiative comes as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the energy transition and the electrification of Quebec’s economy are at the heart of government priorities. The federal government indeed presented, last April, measures related to industrial innovation totaling more than $7 billion by 2028. These measures will affect the entire value chain of electric and intelligent transportation and will enable the acceleration of the decarbonization of heavy industries. Moreover, the Quebec government’s Plan for a Green Economy 2030 (PEV) notably aims for 100% electrification by 2030 of the vehicle fleets used by ministries and certain government agencies. In this context, this partnership therefore aims to act as a catalyst to accelerate the electrification of vehicle fleets in the municipal sector in Quebec.
Under this agreement, Propulsion Québec and the UMQ will collaborate on information sharing and the implementation of projects that will join the strengths and expertise of their respective networks to contribute to the efforts of the PEV. The two partners particularly wish to increase opportunities to electrify municipal vehicle fleets, including by assessing the possibility of setting up group purchasing arrangements for this purpose and by offering municipalities chances to become familiar with this technology and its benefits.
