Montreal, November 3, 2021 —Propulsion Québec, Quebec’s electric and intelligent transportation cluster, wishes to welcome the important announcement by the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, who revealed at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change investments of C$5 billion to electrify more than half of Quebec’s urban buses by 2030. To reach the target of 55% electric urban buses by 2030 set out in the Plan for a Green Economy (PEV), the government aims to acquire 2,148 electric buses by 2030.
"These investments are a concrete demonstration of Quebec’s desire to become a leader in North America in the energy transition toward electric and intelligent transportation," said Sarah Houde, President and Chief Executive Officer of Propulsion Québec. "I want to congratulate the Legault government for its vision focused on accelerating the electrification of public transit; our member companies are pleased by this news, which will result in calls for tenders, contracts and jobs in Quebec over the next 10 years. This announcement is a step in the right direction toward achieving the GHG emissions reduction target by 2030; work must continue to electrify all vehicle fleets, including medium- and heavy-duty types. The government of Quebec can count on the support of Propulsion Québec to mobilize members of the electric and intelligent transportation ecosystem in this major transition," she concluded.
