Description
Someone who performs technical information research; diagnostics; verifications; programming; inspections; preparation tasks; repairs; modifications; road tests; refurbishment or maintenance tasks for systems, all system components, and parts; and the removal or installation of system components or parts on a heavy vehicle or on heavy vehicle fleets. At all times, protecting people and the environment is the top priority.
Examples of tasks and responsibilities
- A heavy vehicle mechanic might also do the work of a trailer mechanic and an installer of added electrical and electronic systems
- A heavy vehicle mechanic apprentice might work under the supervision of a journeyperson mechanic
- A mechanic might install accessories or optional equipment on a heavy vehicle
- The work is mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic
