A first in Canada
THE VERY FIRST LONG-TERM DEMONSTRATION PROJECT FOR AN AUTONOMOUS 100% ELECTRIC SHUTTLE ON PUBLIC ROADS IN CANADA
Propulsion Québec is proud to announce the arrival of a self-driving electric shuttle in the City of Candiac. The pilot project has been led by Keolis Canada and the City of Candiac with financial support from the Government of Quebec and in partnership with Propulsion Québec and Technopôle IVÉO. This is the first ever long-term demonstration of a fully electric autonomous shuttle on a public road in Canada.
The 12-month pilot project will bring the NAVYA self-driving shuttle to the streets of Candiac, where it will follow a strategically planned route. For Quebec’s smart and electric transport ecosystem, the project is material proof that partnerships between various industry players are bearing fruit. It’s also a natural extension of one of the seven working groups of Propulsion Québec, which aims to make Quebec a global building ground for demonstrations and pilot projects in innovative mobility. Once operational, the shuttle will serve as an opportunity to gather and share valuable data that will be used to help launch future projects throughout the province. The use of the shuttle will also inform a regulatory framework, as well as public policy and practices, that will make Quebec an even bigger draw for smart and electric vehicle development, testing, and commercialization. That outcome is central to the work being done by Propulsion Québec’s Regulation and Public Policy working group.
