Montreal, January 12, 2021 —Propulsion Québec, the Electric and Intelligent Transportation cluster (EIT), is pleased to announce a new partnership with Hydro-Québec, the Quebec crown corporation that generates and distributes electricity. This renewable one-year partnership will allow, on the one hand, Hydro-Québec to support the electrification of transportation and the development of new mobility solutions and, on the other hand, Propulsion Québec to benefit from the expertise and experience of this world leader in hydroelectricity and large power networks.

For many years, Hydro-Québec’s energy and know-how have been revolutionizing the transportation sector while supporting Quebec’s decarbonization. A member since the cluster’s creation in 2017, Hydro-Québec is involved notably by sitting on the board of directors, in addition to being a key partner for the realization of several projects. Over the past three years, Hydro-Québec and Propulsion Québec have notably collaborated on the publication of the studyLithium-ion Battery Sector – Developing a Promising Sector for Quebec's Economy, the organization of the firstIMPULSION MTL International Forum on Fleet Managementand the publication ofZERO EMISSION OBJECTIVE: How Are Bus and Truck Manufacturers Positioning Themselves in North America? A Portrait of the Current and Upcoming North American Offering of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles.

This strategic partnership makes Hydro-Québec a major partner of the cluster’s activities and, more specifically, of the Roadmap 2030 study project for Quebec’s electric and intelligent land transportation ecosystem, and a key contributor to the 2ndedition of the IMPULSION MTL International Forum on Fleet Management. For the coming year, Hydro-Québec will collaborate closely with the electric and intelligent vehicle cluster on these various study projects and outreach activities for our ecosystem.

“Propulsion Québec is very proud to welcome Hydro-Québec as a Major partner. As a world leader in renewable energy and a major player in technological innovation, Hydro-Québec is deeply committed to the fight against climate change. By placing its trust in Propulsion Québec, Hydro-Québec contributes to the growth of the electric and intelligent transportation industry and to the positioning of our sector as a driver of recovery for a greener, more sustainable and prosperous Quebec economy and society,” said Sarah Houde, President and CEO of Propulsion Québec.

“In Quebec, we are fortunate to be able to easily replace gasoline imported from elsewhere with our clean energy to electrify our transportation. To do so, we must develop synergy among the various stakeholders in the sustainable mobility sector. One of our main objectives is to offer a reliable charging network across Quebec in order to support the growing number of electric motorists choosing to power themselves by electricity. In addition to continuing to enhance the charging options on our network, we are also exploring different avenues related to the electrification of vehicle fleets. We are therefore very pleased to be among the partners of Propulsion Québec, because the electrification of transportation is an important growth driver for Hydro-Québec,” said France Lampron, Director – Transportation Electrification at Hydro-Québec.
