Engineer, Electric vehicles and charging

Description

Mechanical engineers are responsible for the design and overall integration of the structure, systems, and functions of the vehicle under their responsibility (e.g., steering, suspension, brakes, axles, pneumatics, and hydraulics). They check and approve new components or systems developed by designers. They make sure components meet the targets in the specifications (functionality, durability, costs, standards, performance, etc.). They must also check that new concepts fit together and can be manufactured. They have the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team that includes enthusiastic and qualified engineers and technicians and to play a role in creating innovative ways to get around using electricity.

Examples of tasks and responsibilities

  • Complete all design tasks under their responsibility, from architecture to
    production
  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies, taking thermal and structural constraints into account
  • Perform engineering calculations for the mechanical sizing of components and systems
  • Identify potential concepts in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Assist mechanical draftspersons in the production of manufacturing drawings
  • Analyze, recommend, and implement required engineering changes
  • Participate in and lead design reviews of components and complete products
  • Track design activities and deliverables for a given product
  • Assist the test and prototyping team during the system validation and certification periods and support production launch

Required skills

  • Knowledge of mechanical design and assembly
  • Experience in prototyping, validation, and industrialization of mechanical systems
  • Experience in transportation and/or automotive mechanics (a plus)
  • Proficiency in mechanical modeling software such as SolidWorks, Catia, Siemens NX, etc.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for metal and plastic parts
  • Ability to solve problems in an analytical, methodical, and proactive manner
  • Ability to work on multidisciplinary teams
  • Good prioritization skills
  • Membership in (or eligibility for) Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
