Quebec is in a position to remain a leader in the electric vehicle battery sector and can rely on assets readily available in the province: critical and strategic minerals <\/strong>(CSM), technological expertise <\/strong>and innovation <\/strong>and green energy<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

As early as 2019, Propulsion Qu\u00e9bec was already highlighting the immense potential of the lithium-ion battery sector in Quebec in its study<\/a> conducted by KPMG, which identified the province\u2019s incredible assets.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

To meet the growing needs of sustainable mobility, this sector encompasses the entire value chain of the battery for zero-emission vehicles; from the extraction and transformation of CSMs, to the complete manufacture of batteries, their second-life reuse and recycling.<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Along with implementing a local supply chain, the province can also benefit from markets in the rest of Canada, the United States, and Europe. This stabilizes and secures supply along the entire value chain. Quebec is therefore making a concrete effort to reduce the carbon footprint along each link of the chain, resulting in greener batteries.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Canada earned the top spot out of 30 countries in BloombergNEF\u2019s (BNEF\u2019s) Global Lithium-Ion Battery Supply Chain Ranking (2023)<\/a>. This ranking examines the potential of each country to establish a secure, reliable and sustainable supply chain for lithium-ion batteries. This potential is assessed by analyzing 46 metrics across five categories: raw materials, battery manufacturing, downstream demand, environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations, and industry, infrastructure and innovation. According to BNEF\u2019s overview of the results, Canada\u2019s climb to the top ranking in 2023 can be attributed to its \u201cconsistent manufacturing and production advances, and strong ESG credentials,\u201d which can be greatly attributed to Quebec knowledge and expertise (environmental management, green energy, innovations, etc.).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n
