PILOT PROJECT FOR QUEBEC’S BATTERY INDUSTRY<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

A number of measures, regulations and laws are currently being put in place in certain countries to secure the local supply chain, or that of allied countries, in Critical and Strategic Minerals (CSM). Europe, for example, has announced the introduction of a Battery Passport from 2027, to track the origin, evolution and recyclability of batteries.  <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

The Quebec battery sector would do well to position itself ahead of requirements with respect to traceability. This traceability will allow the Quebec sector to be proactive in promoting its assets and will give businesses a competitive advantage over several outsourcers in North America, Europe and, potentially, in Asian countries, such as South Korea and Japan. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

This is why Propulsion Qu\u00e9bec is launching a CSM traceability pilot project for the Quebec battery sector. This project consists of deploying a traceability and data-sharing platform for businesses along the entire value chain of the Quebec battery sector, from mining to recycling.  <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

This project aims to anticipate international regulations on battery traceability, so as to guarantee Quebec access to world markets, particularly in Europe. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n

The project will use the Optchain platform, developed and managed by Quebec company OPTEL, the project\u2019s implementing partner.  <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Using the platform, six participants will be able to enter their ESG (environmental, social and governance) information, including their carbon footprint and the traceability of CSMs along each link of the value chain. The information, stored securely, will then be ready to be shared with the end-customers and\/or the next stakeholder along the supply chain. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n
