Quebecor is kicking off 2020 with the launch of its action plan to accelerate the electrification of its vehicle fleet, which already boasts nearly 30 electric cars, with a view to effectively fighting climate change. Quebecor has been committed to preserving the environment for a number of years and is now striving to achieve one of the most ambitious objectives for a company in Canada, given the size and diversity of the fleets owned by its various subsidiaries.
“Propulsion Québec is proud to count Quebecor among its members. This forward-thinking company has a strong, multi-year track record for its exemplary environmental practices,” says Sarah Houde, president and CEO of Propulsion Québec. “This plan confirms Quebecor’s status as a leader in sustainable development in Quebec and across Canada. The electrification of vehicle fleets will have a concrete impact on our collective carbon footprint.”
Ultimately, Quebecor’s transportation electrification plan will affect 1,100 vehicles.
To achieve its goal, the company will be purchasing new electric/hybrid vehicles and converting its existing fleet of light trucks from gas to electric engines. The engines will be converted using made-in-Quebec technology developed by Ecotuned Automobile, a Propulsion Québec member. Once this first objective is met, the company will cut its GHG emissions by 50%. Other Quebecor subsidiaries with vehicle fleets will also be going electric in later phases of the project.
Propulsion Québec is delighted with this remarkable and important commitment, and hopes it will serve as an inspiration to other companies at home and abroad.
